Chris O’Leary
What’s your name and where do you live?
Chris O’Leary. Brooklyn, New York.
When did you start listening to TBTL? How did you find the show?
I stumbled upon the show in the radio days after Luke guest-hosted Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me in the summer of ‘08.
How would your friends describe you?
“That guy who had a plane to himself that one time.” Coincidentally, I’m pretty sure that’s how Luke and Andrew would describe me, too.
What was your favorite cereal when you were a kid? Is it still your fav?
Frosted Mini Wheats. My parents refused to let us eat anything sweeter as a kid, and it wasn’t until breakfasts in my college dining hall that I discovered the joy of Fruity Pebbles. My teeth and waistline are probably better off.
What food do you love to eat the most of?
A few years ago on the show, Luke shared his vegetarian Quarter Pounder recipe, and I’m still obsessed. Impossible or Beyond Pattie, ketchup, mustard, Heinz pickles, chopped raw onions, on a sesame seed bun. Perfection.
What’s the best or worst nickname you ever had?
“Hooters.” Let’s just say puberty was not kind to my upper body, nor were my ninth-grade classmates.
If you could play one song on TBTL, what would it be?
Any and every bumper song from the radio days. It’s a perfect encapsulation of late-aughts indie rock.
What’s a special skill you have that you’re most proud of?
Rolling with the punches when traveling. Everyone else’s air travel horror stories (#skyjinkswoo) are quaint when you’ve experienced 48-hour flight delays and multiple emergency landings.
What’s a special skill that you *wish* you had?
The ability to ignore badly-behaved people in airports and on planes. Hell is other people.
If you were driving down the street and you saw Luke and Andrew on the sidewalk, what would you yell at them as you drove past?
“Hey guys, big fan! Can you help me figure out why I’m behind the wheel of this car? I don’t even own a car and this city has incredibly reliable public transit!“
